Lester Russell Snider went to his heavenly home on November 28, 2018 at the age of 84. He was at Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House in Salisbury.
Born November 22, 1934 in Mecklenburg County, he is the son of the late Lewie Henry Snider and Gertrude Shinn Snider.
Lester lived in Spencer before moving to Granite Quarry during elementary school, where he later graduated. A veteran of the US Army, he was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. He then worked at Salisbury Metal Products until his retirement.
Lester loved the Lord and was a member and Deacon at No Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Mocksville, NC. He and his loving wife of 59 years, Merlyn, were married there June 5, 1959.
He greatly enjoyed the outdoors and especially enjoyed farming and taking his grandchildren and great-grandchildren for a ride on his tractor in the warmer months, or pulling them on a sled in the snow. He also enjoyed and hosted countless rabbit roasts with his family, church family and friends. His peanut and pecan brittle, as well as his vegetable soup will be remembered by many.
He is survived by his wife, Merlyn Beck Snider; his two children, daughter Beth S. Fowler(Eddie), and son Todd Snider(Molly); five granddaughters, Megan S. Black(Adam) of Hickory, Hali S. Broadway(Justin) of Landis, Casey F. Lampman(Justin) of Charlotte, Jana Fowler of Spencer and Libby Fowler of Cary; and seven great-grandsons. He is also survived by his siblings, Ruby Watson(Brent) of Salisbury, Mildred Perrell(Larry) of Woodleaf, and Patricia Snider of Salisbury, in addition to nieces, nephews and cousins.
