She was employed by the Ohio State Bureau of Employment Security in the Procedures and Training Department in Columbus, Ohio and later as secretary to the manager in the Bureaus Cleveland Office. From there, she went on to become the executive secretary to the Director of the Ohio Turnpike. In 1957, she married Frank W. Fork and moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
She was a homemaker and did some substitute teaching in the Allegheny County School district, active in church work, and is a charter/lifetime member of the Women's Auxiliary of the American Cancer Society in Allegheny County, serving two years as President.
She became involved with the North Hills Cadet Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol, became a private pilot and flew search and rescue missions. Also, she was the public relations officer handling all media releases for three years and received 2nd place in the National CAP Publicity Program. She graduated from the Officers Training School at Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama. In 1967, she was the first woman since World War II to fly Operation Vietnam, Pennsylvania Wing, for an inter-region airlift of medical supplies. During her summer encampments throughout air force bases, her proudest moment was at Griffith AFB when she flew a military jet with the Nebraska Air National Guard for which she received a citation for this unique event. In 1975, she opened a high fashion women clothing boutique. Her operation consisted of a 4,000+ sq. ft. showroom and had facilities for alterations with a full time seamstress and ten sales personnel. She was well known for commentation and presenting fashion shows throughout western Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

She was a volunteer at Rowan Regional Hospital. Her first love, in addition to her family, has always been cooking and she brought that talent with her when she came to Salisbury. During her term with the Cancer Society, she was instrumental in publishing a cookbook which was featured in Good Housekeeping. In groups, it was always said, "you don't turn down a dinner party invitation to Marie's." Her fine table will be missed by many.
