Mr. Elbert Lewis Culp, Jr., 91, of Salisbury, passed away Thursday, August 16, 2018, at W. G. Bill Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury, NC.
He was born November 27, 1926, in Chester, SC to the late Elbert Lewis Culp and Jannie Garrison Culp. Mr. Culp was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy. After his time in service, he was employed with Celanese Corporation until 1982, when he retired. He then opened Culp's Sharpening. Mr. Culp was a founding member of Neel Road Baptist Church in Salisbury. Elbert loved traveling in his motor home with his wife and dog. Mr. Culp enjoyed wood working in his spare time. He was a member of the Salisbury Elk's Lodge as well as the Lion's Club. Over the years, Mr. Culp went on many mission trips to Brazil and Spain.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Culp was preceded in death by his brothers, Barney, John, and Neil Culp and sisters, Ailein Spencer and Thelma Andrews.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, UyVonda Culp of Salisbury; step-sons, Tim Long and wife, Trisha, of China Grove and Tony Long of China Grove; sisters, Nell Roddey of Blackstock, SC, Helen Bagby of Cumming, GA, Alice Culp of Columbia, SC, and Margaret Kennedy of Chester, SC; brothers, Robert Culp of Fort Lauderdale, FL and Allen Culp of Chester, SC; and grandchildren, Sydney Long of China Grove and Marshall Long of China Grove
The family will greet friends and relatives on Wednesday, August 22, 2018, 10:00 am - 11:30 am at Neel Road Baptist Church, Salisbury, NC.
The funeral service will be held at 11:30 am on Wednesday, August 22, 2018, in Neel Road Baptist Church, Salisbury, NC, with Pastor Jerry Wilkes, officiating.
Burial will follow at Salisbury National Cemetery with military graveside rites by the U.S. Navy and Rowan County Veterans Honor Guard.
