Everette Lyvon Vanhoy, 85, of Gold Hill, passed away Thursday, May 31, 2018 at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center in Salisbury.
He was born September 23, 1932 in New London, NC to the late Jeter and Zora Barbee Vanhoy.
Mr. Vanhoy was a 1951 graduate of New London High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving aboard the USS Omstead. During his service in the Navy, he attended Electrician School. He worked many years in the construction industry. He finished his career at Oakwood Mobile Homes, retiring in 2000 after serving as supervisor of special projects and production manager.
A member of Rockwell United Methodist Church, he was a member of the Golden Rule Sunday School Class and former chairman of the church trustees. Mr. Vanhoy was instrumental in forming the Cub Scout Troop in Rockwell and served on the Scout Commission. He was a former member of the Gold Hill Fire Department and member of the Gold Hill Historical Society. He enjoyed gardening, serving his church, and especially loved spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, Everette was preceded in death by his siblings and a son Robin Everette.
Mr. Vanhoy is survived by his wife of over 65 years, Lucille Bost Vanhoy, whom he married June 14, 1952; sons, Rick Vanhoy and wife Crystal of China Grove, and Mike Vanhoy and wife Carolyn of Starr; grandchildren, Jana Hartsell and husband Josh, Courtney Garrett and husband Keith, Hillary Absher and husband Travis, Neill McCaskill and wife Lauren, Alec McCaskill and wife Holly; and nine great-grandchildren.
The family will greet friends and relatives on Saturday, June 2, 2018, 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm at Powles Staton Funeral Home, Rockwell, NC.
The funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, June 3, 2018, at Rockwell United Methodist Church, Rockwell, NC, with Rev. Charles Curtis and Dr. Wallace C. Gaither Jr. officiating.
Burial will follow in the Gold Hill Cemetery.
