Vernon Eugene VanLangevelde , 92, of Salisbury, passed away on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center in Salisbury, NC surrounded by family. He was born on May 5, 1925 in Holland, MI to the late Peter and Johanna Caauwee VanLangevelde. Vernon proudly served his country in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise during the Asiatic Pacific Campaign.

Vernon was a devoted Christian and a member of the Chapel of Christian Faith while living in the Villages Florida community. He worked as a Police Officer for the police department of Holland Michigan for over 30 years. Family was always the most important part of his life and he spent as much time with them as possible. He enjoyed playing golf with his wife and family whenever he could.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Dale VanLangevelde.

Vernon is survived by his devoted wife of almost 70 years, Shirley Joyce (VanDyke) VanLangevelde of Salisbury; a daughter, Lynn Fior (Americk "Rick" Jr.) of Salisbury; a grandson, Matthew Americk Fior (Joelle) of Charlotte, NC; a granddaughter, Megan Lynn Fior of Mocksville; two great-granddaughters, Skylar Jordan Grubb, and Piper Lynn Crotts; a sister, Joyce Mast (Ken) of Holland, MI; six sister-in-laws, Mary VanLangevelde, Wilma Klungle, Lavina Fischer, Joanne Plooster (Robert), Judith VanEyk (Jim), and Mary Dalman (Richard) all of Holland, MI; and three brother-in-laws, Orley VanDyke, Paul VanDyke (Janice), and Stephen VanDyke (Janice).

A Private Military Graveside Service will be held at a later date at the Salisbury National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Leprocy Missions ( One Alm Way, Greenville, SC 29601) or, Our Daily Bread Ministries (3000 Kraft Ave SE., Grand Rapids, MI 49512) or, Bible League International (1 Bible League Plaza, Crete, IL 60417)
