Naomi Horton Holshouser, 91, of Salisbury, passed away Friday, March 23, 2018, at the Meadows of Rockwell.
She was born October 31, 1926, in Rowan County to the late Jesse Lee and Augusta Cline Horton. Naomi was a graduate of Mt. Ulla High School, retired from Rouzer Motor Parts and then worked part time with Food Lion in the Check Recovery Department for many years. She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church where she was active with WELCA, member of the Church Council, Sunday School teacher, delivered Meals on Wheels, and volunteered with Rowan Helping Ministries. She was a member of the Rockwell Chapter No. 317 Eastern Star where she visited in the 17th District and traveled to several states' Grand Chapter locations. Naomi enjoyed working in the garden, being outdoors, canning vegetables, and traveled extensively after her retirement throughout the United States and Europe.
She is survived by her daughter, Lynne Flood of Columbia, SC; son, David Holshouser and wife, Melanie of Suffolk, VA; step-daughter, Bobbie Sides and husband, Floyd of Newberry, SC; six grandchildren, Kim Havird and husband, Benny of Newberry, SC, Gene Sides and wife, Carol of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Matthew Flood and wife, Heath of Spartanburg, SC, Timothy Flood of Raleigh, NC, Emily Hill and husband, Chris of Courtland, VA, and Laura Holshouser of San Francisco, CA; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Kelsey Havird and Connor Hill; sister-in-law, Betty Ann Horton; and many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
In addition to her parents, Naomi was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Junius Holshouser; brothers, J.L. Horton, Carmon Horton, and Jimmy Horton; and sisters, Dorcas Sechrest and Betty Brown.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, March 27, 2018, in St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Salisbury, NC, with Rev. Sean Barrett, officiating. Interment will follow in St. Peter's Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family will greet friends and relatives following the committal service.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to her caregivers Andrea, Ann, Diane, and Debbie, the staff of the Meadows of Rockwell, and the staff of Rowan Hospice and Palliative Care for their loving care of Naomi over the years. Special thanks to close friend, Shirley Cranford, who was always there when needed.
