Calvin Louis “Buddy” Jacobs, 82, of Salisbury, passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2017. He was born July 13, 1935, in Rowan County, son of the late Woodrow Wilson Jacobs and Velma Brattain Jacobs.
Mr. Jacobs was a 1953 graduate of Spencer High School and began employment after high school with Norfolk Southern in Spencer before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps in 1954. He then joined the United States Air Force, retiring as an Aviation Crew Chief in 1974, after 20 years of military service. Mr. Jacobs then returned to Norfolk Southern in Spencer, retiring again in January 1997, as a yard clerk.
Mr. Jacobs was a member of North Main Baptist Church in Salisbury since 1974, where he was a member of the Men's Sunday School Class, Deacon, Custodian, and maintained the building and grounds. He enjoyed cutting wood and operated a saw sharpening business. Mr. Jacobs enjoyed gardening and an occasional fishing trip, but most of all loved his family and time spent with his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Rita Ashley.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Spry Jacobs, children, Cheryl Bergman (Jim) of Summerfield, Ronald Louis Jacobs (Teresa) of Granite Quarry, Tammy Lynn Lambeth of Rockwell, and Barry Dean Jacobs (Teresa) of Salisbury, sister, Nancy Ruth James of Salisbury, eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and a large extended family including step-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.
The family will visit with friends and relatives from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, December 14, 2017, at Powles Staton Funeral Home in Rockwell.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 15, 2017, in North Main Baptist Church in Salisbury, conducted by Rev. Dr. Dale Robertson. Mr. Jacobs will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Interment with Military Rites will follow at Rowan Memorial Park.
