Robert William “Bill” Fisher, Jr., 55, of Salisbury, passed away Saturday, November 11, 2017. He was born June 18, 1962, in Rowan County, NC to Robert William “Bill” Fisher, Sr. and Marilyn Benson Fisher.
Bill was a 1980 graduate of East Rowan High School and obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from UNC-Charlotte. He began his career as a Youth Counselor Technician at Stonewall Jackson School in 1986. In 1987, he joined North Carolina Department of Public Safety as a Probation and Parole Officer, later becoming an Electronic House Arrest Officer, Intensive Probation Officer, and ultimately, Chief Probation Officer, from which he retired in November 2014. At the time of his retirement from NCDPS, he was the recipient of the Cardinal Award from Governor Pat McCory, in recognition of dedication and outstanding service as an exemplary employee of the State of North Carolina. After retirement, he served as a Parole/Post Release Revocation Hearing Officer with NCDPS and a part time “beertender” with Cabarrus Brewery in Concord. Bill was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Salisbury and Pi Kappa Phi Alumni Association, He enjoyed Carolina Panthers football, Atlanta Braves baseball, Sunderland AFC Soccer, and UNC-Chapel Hill basketball. Mr. Fisher loved his family, friends, and a good beer.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Kelly Callahan Fisher, whom he married November 5, 2005, children, Delaney Elizabeth Fisher and Declan Callahan Fisher, sister, Virginia Gordy and husband, Cary, of Salisbury, niece, MacKenzie Welch and husband, C.T., of Norfolk, VA, nephews, C.J. Gordy and wife, Bobbie, and Greysen Gordy of Salisbury, Uncle Dan and Aunt Alexis Fisher of Salisbury, Uncle Noah and Aunt Mary Henley of Salisbury, Uncle George Benson of Salisbury, and mother-in-law and father-in law, Judy and John Kay of Salisbury.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM on Friday, November 17, 2017, at First United Methodist Church of Salisbury, conducted by Rev. Dr. Mark Conforti, pastor and Father John Eckert, pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A time of reception and visitation will follow the memorial service at the church.
