(Ret.) Chief Clyde Lewis Adams Jr., 73, of Granite Quarry, passed away Sunday, October 29, 2017.
He was born August 18, 1944, in Rowan County, NC, to the late Clyde Lewis Adams, Sr. and Nellie Jacobs Adams. Chief Adams was a 1962 graduate of North Rowan High School and became employed by Owen-Illinois, working with them through several mergers and acquisitions. He attended Basic Law Enforcement Training at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College, becoming a Special Deputy with Rowan County Sheriff's Department prior to being instrumental in the formation of Granite Quarry Police Department and subsequently being named Chief of the Department in 1997. After his retirement, he was honored by the Town of Granite Quarry with the naming of the Clyde Adams, Jr. Law Enforcement Center. He was also a former member of Granite Quarry Fire Department and was a longtime member of Grace Lower Stone Church in Rockwell.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Derek Todd Adams and brother, Bobby Adams.
Chief Adams is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carolyn Harwood Adams, son, Darren Clyde Adams (Lynn Barringer) of Rockwell, sister, Barbara Meismer of Salisbury, mother-in-law, Beatrice Harwood of Rockwell, Goddaughter, Katherine Carter of Fayetteville, and many nieces and nephews.
The family will greet friends and relatives from 2:30 PM to 3:45 PM on Thursday, November 2, 2017, at Grace Lower Stone Church in Rockwell.
The funeral service will be held at 4:00 PM on Thursday at Grace Lower Stone Church, conducted by Rev. Jay Whitley. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
