John Robert Drew, 74, of Gold Hill, passed away Friday, October 13, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born June 29, 1943 in Henderson, NC to the late Harold and Mildred Wade Drew. John retired as a Department Manager in 1990 from Collins & Aikman in Albemarle after 32 years of service. After retiring John worked as a stone mason and with the Albemarle Downtown Development with the Bonaza Program.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Rockwell. John was active in the Gold Hill Men's Club and Rowan Shrine Club, he was Past Master of Keller Memorial Masonic Lodge # 657, Past Commander of Sons of Amvets Post 845, Past President of Rowan County Bass Masters, President for 30 years of Flatwoods Hunting Club and Shankle Mountain Hunting Club. John was an avid fisherman of tournament trails and an avid hunter. He dearly loved his family, friends and church.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his Brothers, Benny Drew, Jerry Drew, and Tommy Drew.
John is survived by his wife of over 54 years, Barbara C. Drew, whom he married August 29, 1964; two sons, Tracy Drew and wife Lynn and Mitch Drew and wife Sally; three grandsons, Chris Drew and wife Natalie, T.J. Drew and Trey Kearns; two granddaughters, Mallory Drew and Lara Drew; and numerous nephews and nieces.
The family will greet friends and relatives on Monday, October 16, 2017, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Powles Staton Funeral Home, Rockwell, NC.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, October 17, 2017, in the First Baptist Church of Rockwell, with Rev. Matthew Laughter, Pastor and Rev. Mark Lowman officiating.
Burial will follow in the Gold Hill Wesleyan Church Cemetery .
