Lee Boyce (Coach) Caudle, 89 of Granite Quarry, passed away peacefully at Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House in Salisbury, NC surrounded by his loving family.

“Coach” Caudle lived his life as an example to follow for many young people through dedication and service to his community and country. His passion was sports, any sport, basketball, baseball, football and golf. His blood was Carolina Blue, through and through.

He was the son of Thomas H. and Valda Caudle, born February 3, 1928. He is survived by his wife, the former Frances Perlene Hartsell, a son, Terry Lee Caudle of Richfield NC (his wife Julia), a daughter, Lynne C. Joyce of Brevard, NC (her husband Reverend Dr. David C. Joyce). Two grandchildren, Kristopher Lee Caudle of Raleigh, NC and Anna Bracco of Davidson, NC and two great grandchildren, Lucas Bracco and William Bracco, and his sisters, Ruby Fraley, Richfield NC, Edna Earnhardt, Richfield, NC, Fran Watson, Richfield, NC, his brothers, Everett Caudle, Statesville, NC, and Dewey Caudle, Mt. Pleasant. He is preceded in death by his brother, James Caudle, Albemarle, NC, and sister, Kathryn Ross, of Richfield NC.

After graduation from Richfield High School in 1947, (where he was an outstanding athlete), he graduated from Pfeiffer College in 1949, and Catawba College in 1951; where he played baseball and obtained a B.A. in Biology. Mr. Caudle completed a Masters Degree in Education Administration from Appalachian State University and a Ed.S. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

He served his country in the U.S. Army in the Commandant’s office for two years during the Korean Conflict.

A blind date in 1947 led to a lifetime of love with the former Frances Perlene Hartsell, a distinguished basketball player at Albemarle High School and Pfeiffer College. They married in 1952 and lived happily ever after.

His distinguished career in education began when he returned to Richfield High School in 1952 to teach Biology and coach Girls and Boys Basketball and Baseball. Upon consolidation of the high schools, he was named Head Baseball Coach and Girls Basketball Coach at North Stanly High School. Later, he was named Head Boys Basketball Coach at West Stanly where he coached championship teams.

In 1966, he was asked to help open Northwest Cabarrus High School where he served as Assistant Principal, Head Boys Basketball Coach, Assistant Football coach and Assistant Baseball coach. He became Assistant Principal of East Rowan High School in 1972 and the following year he was elevated to Principal where he remained until retirement in 1983.

Mr. Caudle was a member of Kendall’s Baptist Church, New London, NC, Kerr Street Baptist Church, Concord, NC, Dunn’s Mountain Baptist Church, Granite Quarry, NC, and most recently, First Baptist Church, Salisbury, NC where he served as a Greeter for 30 years. He also taught Sunday School, served as Deacon and various other leadership roles.

After retirement he became a part of the GARS club of Salisbury where he enjoyed many years of golf and made life-long friends.
