Obituary

J.L. “Kinard” Fisher, 91, of Salisbury, passed away Tuesday, September 19, 2017. He was born February 18, 1926, in Rowan County to the late Lewis Ray and Gladys Trexler Fisher.

Mr. Fisher was a 1943 graduate of Rockwell High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving with the 382nd Station Hospital in WWII and with the 346th Engineers during the Korean War. For his service to his country, he was awarded the WWII Victory Medal and Army of Occupation Medal. Following military service he returned home and retired in 1989 as Superintendent of Matthews International in Granite Quarry. Mr. Fisher was a lifelong member of St. James Lutheran Church in Rockwell where he was a former member of the Lutheran Brotherhood and the Church Council. He was also a former member of Faith American Legion Post No. 327. In retirement he enjoyed raising beef cattle and gardening but truly enjoyed the time he spent with his grandchildren. He may most often be remembered for always having a whimsical quote, no matter the circumstance.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Nathlyn Fesperman Fisher, to whom he was married for 63 years, and his brother, Carnell Fisher.

Mr. Fisher is survived by his children, Kevin Fisher and wife, Tammy of Salisbury, Nina Bell and husband, Burt of Statesville, Dane Fisher and wife, Lynn of Holden Beach and Loren Fisher and wife, Kristin of Cary; brother, Cecil Fisher and wife, Mary of Salisbury, grandchildren, Megan Smith, Bethany Clifton, Madison Bell, Nathan and Alex Fisher, Joshua and Jacob Fisher and Gregori Fisher; great-grandchildren, Brooklinn and Warren Smith and Everlyn Fisher.

The family will visit with friends and relatives from 12:30 PM to 1:45 PM on Friday, September 22, in the the fellowship hall of St. James Lutheran Church in Rockwell.

The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM on Friday in the sanctuary of St. James Lutheran Church, conducted by Rev. Jason Huebner, pastor. Interment will follow in the church cemetery
