Dennis Clifton Board, 94, of Salisbury, passed away Friday, July 28, 2017. He was born March 6, 1923, in Jackson County, WV, to the late Lakin and Mary Wolfe Board.
Mr. Board attended school in Penil, WV and served for three years in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He formerly attended Canaan Baptist Church in Granite Quarry where he served as a Deacon. He enjoyed anything outdoors, especially fishing. Mr. Board obtained his pilot's license and enjoyed flying. A skilled mechanic, he built an airplane and a Model T car and was well known as a lawn mower repairman.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven brothers and two sisters.
Mr. Board is survived by his wife, Helen Ashley Board, whom he married in 1946, son, Anthony Board (Glenda) of Gold Hill, daughter, Jennifer Hughlet of Albemarle, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
The family will visit with friends and relatives from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM on Wednesday, August 2, 2017, at Powles Staton Funeral Home in Rockwell.
A graveside service with Military Graveside Rites by the U.S. Navy and Rowan County Veterans Honor Guard will follow at 1:00 PM on Wednesday at the Salisbury National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Boulevard, Salisbury, NC 28144.
