Jean Athey Phelps, 82, of Salisbury, passed away Sunday, July 16, 2017 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem, NC.
She was born September 12, 1934 in Davie County, NC to the late Roy and Molly Athey. Jean was a graduate of Cooleemee High School, she worked for and retired from Rowan Business Forms in 2011 after 50 years of service. Jean was a member of Maupin Avenue Presbyterian Church, she was Presdient of Women's Ministry, she volunteered for One Church One Child, she was a Sunday School Teacher and a member of the Choir. Jean volunteered with Rowan County Hospice, and was a member of the Granite Quarry Civitan Club.
Jean's grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life, she cherished time spent with them.
In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her Husband, Ernest Fred Phelps, Sr., five brothers and three sisters.
Jean is survived by her son, Freddy Phelps and wife Lu Ann of Rockwell; granddaughter, Rita Phelps Ramsey and husband John of Mount Ulla; grandson, Richard Fred Phelps of Rockwell; three great-grandsons, Jaxon Ramsey, Janson Ramsey, and Maverick Phelps; and great-granddaughter, Annistyn Jean Ramsey.
The family will greet friends and relatives on Wednesday, July 19, 2017, 10:00 am - 11:00 am at Powles Staton Funeral Home, Rockwell.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, July 19, 2017, in the Powles Staton Funeral Home Chapel, Rockwell, with Rev. Carlin Ours, officiating.
Burial will follow in the Brookhill Memorial Gardens.
