Alfred E. Gynn of China Grove, NC, died Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at home surrounded by his family after a hard fought battle against cancer.
Al was born on September 12, 1941 in Ashtabula to Richard H. and Iola F. Gynn. He was a 1959 graduate of Grand Valley High School. After graduation, Al joined the US Navy where he served with distinction for 3 years aboard the USS Hoist.
Al was a loyal fan of the Cleveland Indians and Browns. He enjoyed NASCAR, crossword puzzles and was a great storyteller often reminiscing about the antics he shared as a young boy with his brothers and friends and many stories about his work life.
Al worked in the Chemical Manufacturing Industry for 40+ years as an Instrument Electrician retiring in 2011 from a job he truly enjoyed.
Al is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Brenda W. Gynn; son, Jon R. Gynn and spouse Shelly; daughter, DeAnne G. Chapman and spouse Butch; grandson, Spencer W. Chapman and spouse Leslie; granddaughters, Jamie N. Gynn and fiancé Daniel, Jaycie M. Gynn and Madison A. Brewer; one great-grandson Aaron J. Cruz all of NC; brothers, Wilson H. Gynn and spouse Kay of IN., Paul T. Gynn and spouse Shelby of OH as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Al is preceded in death by his parents Richard H. and Iola F. Gynn of Rome, OH
Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, April 28, 2017 at Grace Bible Church in Rockwell, NC. Internment with full military honors to follow at the National Cemetery in Salisbury, NC. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church, beginning at 12:30 PM.
