Ara "Loretta" Beaver Whitley, 76, of Salisbury, passed away Saturday, April 1, 2017. She was born August 28, 1940, in Rowan County, NC, to the late Elmer Ray "Slingshot" Beaver and Irene Hopkins Beaver. Ms. Whitley attended China Grove High School and retired from Shat-R-Shield in Salisbury. She was a waitress for many years, most recently at Darrell's Bar-B-Q in Rockwell.
Ms. Whitley was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Rockwell and loved the gospel music group "The Gospel Plowboys." She loved planting flowers in her yard and enjoyed eating at Cracker Barrel and The Classic. She was very family oriented and dearly loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and her dog, Ashley.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Jackie Wilhelm and her brother, Ronald Beaver.
She is survived by her children, David Brown (Tamara) of Salisbury and Shelby Harwood (Banks Kluttz) of Salisbury, sisters, Vickie Wilson of Rockwell, Phyllis Davis (Lonnie) of Morehead City, and Margaret Rhoades of North Wilkesboro, brother, Ray "Buster" Beaver (Mary) of Rockwell, grandchildren, Jennie Brown Bray (Scottie) of China Grove, Lewis David Brown (Samantha) of Salisbury, Andrew Lawrence Brown (Morgan) of Fort Campbell, KY, Lindsey Harwood Dorsett (Keith) of Rockwell, and Drew Allan Harwood (Abby) of Salisbury, great-grandchildren, Bryson, Xander, Lawson, Olivia, Rebekak, Greyson, Addison, and Liza Drew, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will visit with relatives and friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at Powles Staton Funeral Home in Rockwell and will be at the home of Shelby Harwood the remainder of the time.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, April 5, 2017, in Bethel Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. John Houghton, pastor and assisted by Pastor Darrell Worley and Pastor Carl Haynes.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the staff, nurses, and physicians of the Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House for their love, care, and support during the past weeks.
