Obituary

Dennis Charles "Sonny" McClintock, 82, of Salisbury, passed away Wednesday, March 29, 2017. He was born on February 2, 1935, in Somerset, PA, the eldest of nine children born to the late Dennis W. and Ida Mae McClintock.

Mr. McClintock worked at the Salisbury Loeblein Brothers Furniture Plant for 32 years after his discharge from the Air Force, eventually becoming supervisor of their Frame Department. He later worked at Hall Furniture Plant in Woodleaf as a band saw operator, Dixie Furniture Company in Lexington, Cunningham Brick Company in Lexington as a dispatcher, and then five years at Baker Furniture Plant in Mocksville until he retired once again. He worked 3 ½ years for Rowan Transit Company of Salisbury, driving a handicap van, working with the Special Population during which time he enjoyed assisting with the Special Olympics. He also worked with the legally blind. Later he worked at P&G Security as a courier for F&M bank for five years. He "retired" four times before finally retiring!

Sonny was a volunteer fireman at Union Fire Department Station No. 76. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church and the Jesus Seekers Adult Sunday School Class. Mr. McClintock was also a member of the American Legion # 327 and was a loyal volunteer with Rowan Helping Ministries from 2009 to 2015. In "retirement," he worked as a ride attendant for the Country Fair at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge from March until November of 2010.

In addition to his parents, Mr. McClintock was preceded in death by his grandmother, Emma Burkett, great-grandparents, Tobias Yoder and Mary Whipley Yoder, brother, Larry Michael McClintock, and sisters, Shirley Mae Collins, Terry Lou Johnson, and Audrey Smith.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Lou Flickinger McClintock, whom he married September 25, 1953, in Kent, Ohio. They were blessed with four wonderful children who survive, Michael McClintock, Sheri Hamrick (William), Gary McClintock (Debbie), and Lisa Johnson (Mike). Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Jeremy C. Simmons, Kristie Singer (Craig), Erin Rogers (Martin), Bethany Hollifield (Clayton), Christian J. Hutchinson (Nichole), Hunter M. McClintock, Dylan W. Hutchinson (Kimberly), and step-grandchild, Brandon Hamrick, great-grandchildren, Haley Simmons, Blake, Brandon, and Baylee Rogers, Joseph and Jaxson Singer, Kaden Hutchinson, and Gentry Grace Hollifield, siblings, Nancy Rogers, Sandra Henson, Marjorie Darby, and Donald McClintock.

The family will visit with friends and relatives from 10:30 AM to 11:15 AM on Wednesday, April 5, 2017, at Faith Baptist Church, 203 N. Main Street, Faith, NC 28041. The funeral service will follow at 11:30 AM in the church sanctuary. Burial will follow at the Salisbury National Cemetery.
