Dorothy Burgess Berg Teat , 85, of Salisbury, passed away at her home on Monday, January 16, 2017 surrounded by her family. She was the loving wife of the late Robert "Bob" Lee Teat to whom she was married 61 years.
Dorothy was born on October 19, 1931 in Mecklenberg County to the late Stanley Dauch Berg and Myrtle Cora Burgess Berg. She was a graduate of Pensacola Christian College and was a teacher at Rockwell Christian School until her retirement.
Dorothy was a member of Bethel Baptist Church where she was active in Sunday School, the choir, and was the church organist. She loved to garden and enjoyed bird watching. Family was an important part of Dorothy's life and she was a loving wife, mother, grand, and great-grandmother.
In addition to her parents and her husband Robert, Dorothy was preceded in death by three brothers, R. Stanley, David T., and Paul Berg; and one sister, Miriam Mason.
She is survived by one son, Robert Stanley Teat and wife Betty of Marion, TX; three daughters, Dorothy "Dottie" Fenner and husband Charles of Canton, NY, Merrie Hupp and husband Jim of Utah, and Elizabeth "Beth" Shipton of Danville, VA; 10 grandchildren, Rebecca, Stanley, Debbie, Tim, Cristina, Nicole, Brooke, Bryson, Brittany, and Brelynn; 8 great-grandchildren, Kaila, Sydney, Adeline, Johnny, Logan, Mackenzie, Samuel, and Hudson; and one sister, Eunice Wilhelmi of Montreat.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at 12:30 pm at Bethel Baptist Church in Rockwell, with Rev. John Houghton, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow the service in the Historic Salisbury National Cemetery, 202 Government Rd, Salisbury, NC 28144..
