Obituary

Bobby Ray Miller, 78, of Salisbury, passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2017 surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of Taeko Oda Miller whom he married on October 15, 1959.

Bobby was born on August 21, 1938 to the late Lee and Esther (Basinger) Miller in Rowan County. He graduated from Granite Quarry High School in 1956 and went on to complete his Associate's Degree in Real Estate at Modesto Junior College in Modesto, California.

Bobby proudly served his county in the United States Navy, retiring from the service in 1974. After his retirement from the Navy, he worked as a Real Estate Agent in California. Later in life, he worked as guard for the NC Dept. of Corrections at the Piedmont High Rise for five years.

He was a member of Organ Lutheran Church, a member of Faith American Legion Post #327, and a member of Salisbury VFW Post #3006, past president of the Fleet Reserve Association, and past Commander of the Modesto VFW Post #197 in Modesto, Ca.

In addition to his parents, Bobby was preceded in death by three brothers, Lee Miller, Jr. and Roscoe and Buddy Miller; and three sisters, Judy Holshouser, and Ruth and Mary Miller.

Bobby is survived by his Wife57 years, Taeko Oda Miller; daughter, Tammy Lee Bowers (Steve) of Salisbury; son, Bobby Ray Miller, Jr. (Launa) of Beverly Hills, CA; 6 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three sisters, Joan M Hammill of Salisbury, Dixie M. Talbert of Rockwell and Carol M. Hill of Salisbury; and one brother, Clarence Miller of Salisbury.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 from 1-2 pm at Powles Staton Funeral Home in Rockwell. A service will follow the visitation at 2 pm in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Carlin Ours officiating. Burial will follow in Brookhill Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the NC State Veterans Home: 1601 Brenner Ave, Salisbury, NC 28144.
