Samuel Lee Ward, 71, of Gold Hill, passed away on Sunday, September 18, 2016 at his home in Gold Hill.

He was born on July 21, 1945 to Curtis and Mary Hoffner Ward at Salisbury, NC. Sam attended East Rowan High School; he was a self employed Truck Driver for close to fifty years, having worked for Earnhardt Trucking for over 35 years, and most recently for RER. Sam also helped his friend Sam Black on his farm.

Sam enjoyed word puzzles, watching westerns on TV, and farming. He loved to go to breakfast with his friends at Jimmy's Lakeside Restaurant. He also loved spending time with his friends and especially family.

Sam is survived by his wife of over 19 years, Janice Salmon Ward, whom he married August 30, 1997; Son, Trent Ward and wife Marci of Salisbury; Daughter, Dana Ward Winstead of Salisbury; Two Step-Sons, Brian Guy and wife Dawn of Volant, PA, Jason Guy and wife Kelly of Raleigh; Step-daughter, Jennifer Guy Burleyson and husband Jim of Salisbury; Three Grandsons, Curtis Ward, Justin Guy and Nathan Guy; Four Granddaughters, Casey Ward, Caitlin Johnson, Kierra Guy and Jasmine Guy; Brother, Jeff Ward and wife Rhonda; Three Sisters, Judy Gainey, Frances Jackson and Linda Boggs; he is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Samuel was preceded in death by a Sister, Jeanette Lefler.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 21, 2016, 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Powles Staton Funeral Home, Rockwell, NC.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2016, 7:00 pm at the Powles Staton Funeral Home, Rockwell, NC, with Rev. Philip Martin Pastor of Gold Hill Wesley Church, officiating and Rev. Mark Lowman.

In lieu of flowers memorials in memory of Sam may be made to the American Cancer Society PO Box 22478 Oklahoma City, OK 73123 or to the American Heart Association 4217 Park Place Court Glen Allen, VA 23060-9979.
