George Coy Kepley, 92, of Salisbury, passed away on Friday, September 16, 2016 at CMC-Northeast in Concord. He was born on May 8, 1924 in Rowan County, NC to the late Arthur Kepley and Jessie Wood Kepley. Mr. Kepley proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII. He was involved in the Rhineland Campaign and fought at the Battle of the Bulge.
George attended Rowan County Schools and worked as a Carpenter for Cauble Brothers Construction as well as Wilson and Son Construction. He was Lifetime member of Faith Baptist Church and was formerly active in the Faith American Legion Post 327. George enjoyed surf fishing, working in his garden, woodworking, and eating chocolate. He built many things for children and grandchildren including a playhouse that is now being enjoyed by his great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his first wife; Edna "Trixie" Boyd Kepley; four brothers, Wade Kepley, Blue Kepley, Garner Kepley, and Paul Kepley; and a sister, Geneva "Sis" Brown.
George is survived by his wife, Mary "Inez" Kepley who he married in February 1997; a daughter, Jeanie Kepley Martin (Jeff) of Granite Quarry; three grandchildren, Brandi Martin Branch (Al) of Granite Quarry, Jennifer Leigh Martin of Granite Quarry, and Sarah Nicole Gordon of Winston-Salem; and two great grandchildren, Isabel Ruth Branch and Kiley Anne Martin.
The Visitation will be held on Sunday September 18, 2016 at Powles Staton Funeral Home from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
The Funeral Service will be held on Monday September 19, 2016 at 1:00 PM Faith Baptist Church (203 N. Main St., Faith, NC 28041) conducted by Rev. Tim Barnette. The burial will take place following the service in the church cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the Rowan County Veterans Honor Guard and the North Carolina National Guard and the NC Patriot Guard.
