Obituary

Jeane Walton Poole 85, of Rockwell, passed away on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at the Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House in Salisbury. Born on November 16, 1930 in High Point, NC, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Maggie Walton. Jeane attended High Point City Schools and graduated in 1952 from Guilford College.

She was public school music teacher in Durham County and a substitute teacher in Rowan County before becoming a social worker. She retired in 1992 after devoting many years with the Rowan County Department of Social Services.

Jeane was dedicated into the High Point Friends Meeting and later became an active member of St. James Lutheran Church in Rockwell. She sang in the choir, was past president of the WELCA, directed the Childrens Choir for many years and helped with Meals on Wheels.

Jeane enjoyed playing bridge and singing in various choral groups over the years. Her greatest love was her family, and she rarely missed attending any musical, academic or sporting events involving her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She valued relationships with numerous life long friends, she enjoyed keeping up with family and friends on FaceBook.

In addition to her parents, Jeane is preceded in death by her husband, "Jim" Poole; granddaughter, Alyson Medley; sister, Wanda Walton; and brother, Jack Walton.

Jeane is survived by her children, Sandy Johnson and wife Barbara of Hickory, Jane Medley and husband Ray, Jeane Lowman and husband David, Debbie Helms and husband Toby "Hoot", Barney Poole and wife Traci, Susie Shuping, and Beverly Raines and husband Steve. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 20th from 12:30 to 2:00 pm at St. James Lutheran Church.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 20th at 2:00 pm at St. James Lutheran Church conducted by Rev. Jason Huebner, Pastor. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Jeane may be made to St. James Lutheran Church Music Fund, PO Box 486 Rockwell NC 28138 or to the Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House 1229 Statesville Blvd Salisbury NC 28144.

The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to Dr. Amy Wilson, and to the staff of the Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House for their kind and compassionate care.
