James Torrence Alexander, Jr., 82, of Rockwell passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2016, at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center in Salisbury. James was born on December 5, 1933 in York County, South Carolina son of the late James T. Alexander, Sr. and Annie Garris Alexander.
He was a 1952 graduate of Rockwell High School and had received an Associate Degree in Accounting from Salisbury Business College. James was a Veteran having served in the US Army during the Korean War, was a member of the 101st Airborne, Alaskan Ski Patrol and the US Army Polar Bear Club. He retired from Cannon Mills Plant #16 Swink Plant as a Shift Supervisor.
James was a member of Lyerly Evangelical Church where he served as Church Treasurer for many years. He was a talented furniture maker, enjoyed collecting antiques and many other items. James was known for his gardening, fishing and his love of family.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Christine Alexander, half brother Robert Garris, sisters Mary Louise Eagle, Edna Drye and Janie Gibson.
Survivors include sons, Charles Ray Myers of Rockwell and James Robert Alexander and wife Nancy of Rockwell; daughter Ann Alexander Crayton and husband Michael of Salisbury; sister, Dorothy Hodges of Landis; special young folks Amanda, Michael, Zoey, Madalyn Alexander Dales and Lauren Alexander.
Visitation: Visitation will be held Friday, July 22, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at Lyerly Evangelical Church.
Service: Funeral service will be held on Friday, July 22, 11:00AM at Lyerly Evangelical Church with Dr. W. C. Gaither, Jr.
officiating. Burial will follow at Brookhill Memorial Gardens with Military Graveside Rites by the Rowan County Honor Guard and the NC National Guard.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers memorials in memory of James may be made to Lyerly Evangelical Church, 1320 Crescent Road, Rockwell, NC 28138.
