Obituary

Mayor Swinton "Floyd" Wilson, 74, of Richfield, passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2016 at Carolina Medical Center-Main in Charlotte, NC.

He was born on September 6, 1941 to the late James Wilson and Alma Smith Lewis in Greenville, SC. Mayor Wilson was a 1959 graduate of Parker High School; he was self employed.

Mayor Wilson was the founder and President Emeritus of the Carolinas Aviation Museum in Charlotte. He was currently serving his fifth term as Mayor of Richfield. Mayor Wilson was a member of the Confederate Air Force and the Richfield VFW. Mayor Wilson was a scholar of military history and aviation and an avid collector of military vehicles, art and memorabilia. Mayor Wilson was a pilot and appeared in 3 movies.

In addition to his parents, Mayor Wilson was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Bauernfeind Peithman Wilson; step-father, Roark Lewis, Son, Anthony Keith Wilson, and Step-son, Wayne Allen Dinges.

Mayor Wilson is survived by; Two Daughters, Tammy Wilson Myers and husband Kevin of Richfield, NC, Cindy Wilson of Salisbury, NC; Twin Brother, Lloyd W. Wilson and wife Jane of Anderson, SC; step-daughter, Lynn Stock and husband Stephen of CA; Four Step-Sons, Ronald Dinges of Rockwell, Ralph Dinges of SC, David Dinges of Salisbury, and Bobby Wilson of IN; Mayor Wilson is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and 7 step-grandchildren. His memorial would not be complete without mentioning his beloved companion and "Boss", his cat BO.

Visitation will be held Thursday, June 30, 2016, from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Powles Staton Funeral Home, Rockwell, NC.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 1, 2016, at 9:00 am at the Powles Staton Funeral Home Chapel, Rockwell, NC, with Rev. Mike Herring, Pastor of Stallings Memorial Baptist Church officiating.

Burial will take place in the US National Cemetery in Salisbury (501 Statesville Blvd Salisbury NC 28144) on Friday, July 1st at 10:00 am with Military Graveside Rites provided by the U.S. National Guard and the Rowan County Veterans Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers memorials in memory of Floyd may be made to the Carolinas Aviation Museum Education Program 4672 1st Flight Dr. Charlotte NC 28208.
