Mrs. Alice Correll Hess Stokes, 84, of Salisbury passed away on Sunday, May 22, 2016 at Novant Health Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Stokes was born in Rowan County on September 28, 1931, daughter of the late Julius Glenn Hess and Dorothy Correll Hess.
Mrs. Stokes was educated in the Rowan County Schools and graduated from Boyden High School in 1949. She retired from Food Lion Corporate Office where she worked in Management Banking.
She was a lifetime member of Maupin Avenue Presbyterian Church where she prepared communion bread for many years and taught Sunday School. She was also active in Women's Ministries.
In addition to her parents she is also preceded in death by her husband Paul Edward Stokes who passed away on April 22, 2009, son Tony E. Stokes and by daughter-in-law Denise Stokes.
Mrs. Stokes is survived by her sons Ronnie C. Stokes of Jacksonville, NC and Alan R. Stokes (Nancy) daughter Kathy S. Kepley (Chuck) of Salisbury, sisters Mary Ruth Harrill of Salisbury and Helen McCarn of Kannapolis and also by grandchildren, Nathan Stokes (Lorhel), Chandler Spry, Joel Stokes, Macklyn Kepley and Kane Kepley.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 26, 2016 from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM at Maupin Avenue Presbyterian Church.
The service will follow at 10:00 AM on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at Maupin Avenue Presbyterian Church conducted by Pastor Randy Foster. Burial will follow at the US National Cemetery at 11:00 AM.
