Marvin Eugene Johnson, 91, of Salisbury, passed away Friday, June 2, 2017 at Oak Park Retirement in Salisbury, NC.
He was born March 29, 1926 in Concord, NC a son of the late Smiley and Aggie Cole Johnson. He attended Odell School and graduated from the Burke Institute. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy, serving in WWII and the Air National Guard.
Marvin was a member of Rockwell United Methodist Church, the VFW, the Emmanuel Emmaus Community and he was active as a Boy Scout leader in his early years.
In addition to his parents, Marvin was preceded in death by his son, Marvin Eugene Johnson, Jr.; brothers, Joseph C. Johnson, Arthur Wilson Johnson "Pete", and George Lee Johnson; one sister, Thelma Johnson Blackwelder; and one grandson, Joseph Matthew Henderson.
Marvin is survived by his wife of over 71 years, Martha Juanita Shirley Johnson, whom he married December 23, 1945; three daughters, Penni Henderson and husband Mike of Fayetteville, Marty Perry and husband Steve of Zebulon, and Becky Castor and husband Jerry of Rockwell. Marvin is also survived by eleven grandchildren, twenty six great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
In addition to the Funeral Service a Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 pm Saturday, June 10, 2017, at Oak Park Retirement for the residents.
The family will greet friends and relatives on Sunday, June 11, 2017, 1:30 pm - 2:15 pm at Rockwell United Methodist Church, Rockwell, NC.
The funeral service will be held at 2:30 pm on Sunday, June 11, 2017, in the Rockwell United Methodist Church, Rockwell, NC, with Rev. Charles Curtis, Pastor and Rev. DeForest Hillyer officiating.
Burial will follow at Brookhill Memorial Gardens with military graveside rites provided by the United States Navy and the Rowan County Veterans Honor Guard.
