Obituary

Charles Franklin "Pete" Connor , 90, of Salisbury, passed away Sunday, June 11, 2017 at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center in Salisbury, NC.

He was born March 18, 1927 in Rowan County, a son of the late Charles and Savannah Honeycutt Connor.

Pete proudly served his country in the United States Navy Seabees, serving during WWII in Guam, Saipan and Philippines. He was a 1950 graduate of Rockwell High School.

Pete worked as a Machinist Mechanic for Southern Railway for 17 years, he retired from Fiber Industries in 1982 with more than 16 years of service. Pete began his career with Fiber Industries in 1966 in the filament processing department then he was promoted to foreman in 1967, later he moved to training and development where he was a supervisor for training and development. During that time he was sent to Sao Paulo, Brazil where he wrote Standard Operating Procedure for a plant start-up, he served on a panel for professional employee learning.

Pete loved working outdoors, woodworking and working and selling his pecans. Most of all he enjoyed music, especially County and Gospel, he loved going with son, Darrell and his band The County Music Legends Band as they would play in nursing homes and other engagements.

Pete was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church all of his adult life, serving his Lord and church by participating most all of the programs of the church. He was a past member of the choir, the Lutheran Brotherhood, Luther League, Church Council, and taught the Unity Sunday School class for almost 50 years. The Unity class wasn't just a Sunday School class, but a group of Christians that Pete loved very much.

Pete is survived by his three sons, Darrell A. Connor and companion Toni of Salisbury, Don R. Connor and wife Darlene of Salisbury, and Ron G. Connor of Gastonia; granddaughter, Brittney Nicole Connor of Charlotte; Sister-In-Law, Linda Connor of Slatington, PA; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Pete was preceded in death by his beloved wife Dorothy "Dot" Boggs Connor on December 11, 2005; brothers, Bill and Jim Connor, and sister, Charlotte Connor.

The family will greet friends and relatives on Wednesday, June 14, 2017, 1:00 pm - 2:45 pm at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church Family Life Center.

The funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Salisbury, NC, with Rev. Gary S Coble, officiating.

Burial will follow in the St. Matthew's Lutheran Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials in Memory of Mr. Pete may be made to St. Matthew's Lutheran Church Exterior Fund 9275 Bringle Ferry Road Salisbury NC 28146.
