Billy Craig Rufty, 84, of Salisbury, went to be with the Lord, while surrounded by family on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Liberty Commons Nursing & Rehab in Salisbury.
Bill was born January 31, 1933 to the late Kerr and Lula Earnhardt Rufty of Salisbury. He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force having served in the Korean War. Bill was a graduate of Granite Quarry High School, and worked as an Orderly for W.G. "Bill" Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury for many years.
Bill was a member of Providence United Methodist Church. He was a member of Keller Memorial Masonic Lodge #657, Salisbury York Rite Bodies, Scottish Rite, Oasis Shriners, and the Rowan County Shrine Club,. He was also a member of the Rockwell AMVETS, American Legion Post # 448. Bill was an avid reader and loved Louis L'Amore Westerns.
Bill is survived by his wife of over 46 years, Betty Hendren Rufty, whom he married August 23, 1970; two sons, Steven Mark Rufty, and Gary Wayne Burleyson and wife Kristy all of Salisbury; Four daughters, Myra Burleyson Heard and husband Jeff of China Grove, Lisa Burleyson Draper and husband Tim of Rockwell, Lori Burleyson Moore and husband Eric of Rockwell, and Leslie Leigh Burleyson of Salisbury; three grandsons, Kris Rufty, Michael Rufty, and Charles Draper; six granddaughters, Kayla Rufty, Shanna Parker, Tara Smith, Michelle Prather, Tina Meyler, and Jessica Nicholson; he is also survived by 12 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by Sons, Stuart Craig Rufty, and Kevin Michael Rufty, sisters, Elizabeth Rufty Weaver, and Katherine Crosby Kepley, and brother, Norman R Rufty, Sr.
Visitation will be held at Powles Staton Funeral Home on Monday, May 15th from 1:00 to 3:00 pm.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 15th at 3:00 pm at Powles Staton Funeral Home with Rev. Aldana Allen Pastor of Providence United Methodist Church, officiating.
Burial will take place in the Salisbury National Cemetery on Tuesday, May 16th at 9:00 am with military honors provided by the Air Force and the Rowan County Honor Guard, and Masonic rites provided by Keller Memorial Masonic Lodge #657.
In lieu of flowers memorials in memory of Bill may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 2900 N. Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
